A new generation of battery-electric aircraft has completed extended test campaigns, logging hundreds of hours in varied weather.
Their range remains limited to short regional hops, but operators see a clear fit for island links and feeder routes where quiet, cheap-to-run aircraft could revive forgotten airports.
Certification is the next hurdle, and manufacturers say entry into service is now a matter of years, not decades.
